A service worker at a five-star hotel in Paris reportedly said that Serena Williams was “unrecognizably” after the tennis player claimed she and her children were turned away from a rooftop eatery.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion vented her frustration on social media on Monday, taking to X to openly criticize the care she got during her stay at The Peninsula Hotel.
She posted a picture of the hotel and commented, saying, “Yikes. @peninsulaparis.” Nicer restaurants have denied me access to their rooftops to eat, but never with my kids. Always starting out first.
In response, the hotel wrote on X that the only empty tables she observed belonged to their fine dining establishment, L’Oiseau Blanc, which they said was completely booked.
It has been stated by a coworker of Williams’s who was working at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, Maxime Mannevy, that Williams appeared ‘unrecognisable’.

Williams is spotted here with her daughter Olympia when they came for the women’s artistic gymnastics team final last week. Williams has attended a number of sports at the Paris Olympics.
“Make a table for Serena Williams,” remarked a fourth person.
However, some social media users claimed the star’s attitude was “entitled” and “about privilege,” while others did not come to support her.
After all, are we really telling this place that just because she’s a star, they should have figured it out? asked one X user. Nope. They have every right to be upset that they couldn’t figure it out since “I’m special,” if they are indeed booked.
One more person commented, stating, “I love the people in here saying she deserved special treatment and should have gotten a table in a fully booked restaurant.” Holy cow, what a privilege, hehe.

On social media, some fans praised Williams, while others condemned the former tennis player.

Williams, together with her family in Paris and her six-year-old daughter Olympia, have attended multiple Olympic events.
Along with a number of other well-known athletes, she was on the same boat as Rafael Nadal, Carl Lewis, and Nadia Comaneci during the opening ceremony of the Games on July 26.
Williams won four gold medals at the Olympics, including the singles and doubles titles in London 2012. She announced her retirement from tennis in 2022.
